Requiem Aeternam

For SATB chorus
2002
Dur: 8:30
Dedicated to The Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of NYC, William Entriken, choirmaster

Requiem Aeternam was written in the month after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City (September 11, 2001). Six members of my local church, The First Presbyterian Church of New York City, were killed during the attack. This piece was written in their memory and represents collective grieving over their deaths (and the deaths of so many others) as well as an appreciation of what they gave us in their lifetimes.

Translation for Requiem Aeternam (first movement of the Requiem Mass):

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Te decet hymnus, Deus, in Sion,
Et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem
Exaudi orationem meam
Ad te omnis caro veniet.

Requiem aeternam dona defunctis, Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Kyrie, eleison.
Christe, eleison.
Kyrie, eleison.
Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
A hymn, O god, becometh Thee in Zion,
And a vow shall be paid to thee in Jerusalem
Hear my prayer
All flesh shall come before you.

Eternal rest give unto the dead, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
